Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said the government is committed to the issue of corporate governance in both the public and private sectors of the economy. He told the annual conference of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) tagged “Public Relations and Corporate Governance’’ on Tuesday in Abuja that the theme and sub-theme of the conference had dealt extensively with issues of comparative analysis of corporate governance in Africa.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili, he said that the Nigerian government would continue to ensure the proper establishment and inauguration of enduring legacies for Nigerians.
“The Federal government wishes to assure APRA of its continued interest in ensuring the proper establishment and inauguration of the enduring legacies it has planned for Nigeria.’’
He noted that the global economic meltdown was an issue that all governments should take seriously.
Earlier, the APRA President, Mrs. Kate Bapela, said APRA was vigorously pursuing the vision of being a significant continental body, adding that as an African daughter, she would diligently follow efforts that were geared to better the lots of the continent.
The 2010 conference, which is the 23rd edition, is being attended by more than 300 participants from Ghana, Uganda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Kenya, The Gambia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the host country, Nigeria.
